Two additional regional sides have been approved for the coming domestic season, widening the pool selectors can draw from and adding roughly thirty first-class places.
Officials described the expansion as overdue, pointing to the gap between the number of players in age-group cricket and the places available above it.
The fixture problem
Adding teams also lengthens the calendar, and the board has not yet said whether the season will extend into the monsoon or compress the existing schedule.
